About us

ALPD (Association for the Fight Against Poverty and for Development) is a Mauritanian national non-governmental organization.

Founded in 1993 and officially recognized on June 6, 1999 (registration n°390/MIPT), ALPD is an apolitical, independent, non-profit NGO. Based in Nouakchott, with a strong operational presence in Hodh Echarghi, it has worked for more than 27 years with refugee, displaced and vulnerable populations, in close collaboration with United Nations agencies and local authorities.

Governance

ALPD is structured in four levels: the General Assembly (supreme body), the Board of Directors (7 members), the Audit and Control Committee (3 members), and the Management Committee / Executive Direction. Recruitment is overseen by a Staff Recruitment and Evaluation Committee, and all staff are trained on humanitarian standards (prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, SPHERE/IASC norms).

ALPD founded in Nouakchott.
1999
Official recognition by the Mauritanian State (registration n°390/MIPT).
2004-2009
First partnerships with WFP and FAO on food security.
2005
Start of the historic partnership with UNHCR and UNFPA.
2007-2009
Voluntary repatriation operation to Senegal: 30 convoys, 7,036 people.
2010-2015
Income-generating activities program with UNHCR.
2013-2023
Decade-long program against gender-based violence.
2021
Peace and social cohesion campaign in Hodh El Gharbi; partnership with IOM.
2023
Independent audit issued an unqualified opinion on the UNHCR project (33.9M MRU).
